Willi is Rude
“Willi!”
Little Mushroom Man jumps from the counter and rushes to hug Willi as soon as she enters the kitchen. Strange Cook is also there, tending to a pot of something boiling, but they do give Willi a brief glance. Willi waves at them.
“Do you wanna try the soup Cook made?” Little Mushroom Man asks. “I ate some and it made me regurgitate cotton candy!”
At that, Willi glances at the pink and blue fluff that is on the counter in the corner, along with a bowl of pink and blue sludge.
“Maybe another day,” Willi tells him. “Right now, I need to go in the basement for something.”
“Please do not bother The Thing Under the Floor!” Strange Cook calls.
“I won’t,” Willi promises. “I just need the snow shovel that’s down there.”
“There’s snow?” Little Mushroom Man hops after Willi as she makes her way to the basement door.
“Where? Can I see? Can I play in it? Can I eat it? Will it make me puke something fun? Will it turn me to ice? Can I—”
Little Mushroom Man continues with his many questions that make less and less sense as Willi reaches for the door knob
and immediately retracts her hand.
Something…slapped her? From the knob?
Willi examines it and realizes that the door knob is much darker than it should be. In fact, the entire door is darker than it should be.
Just as she starts to wonder if this is another part of House Thief, the darkness moves and wiggles.
“ruuuuuude…” the darkness moans. “i was sleeeeeeeeeeping…”
“I’m sorry,” Willi says. “But I need to get in my basement.”
“too baaaaaaaaad…” the darkness continues. “i’m sleeeeeeeeeeping.”
“But you’re awake now,” Willi tells them.
“ruuuuuuuuuude. what a ruuuuuuuuude little giiiiiiiiirl.”
“How long do you plan to sleep?” Willi asks, trying another tactic.
“i don’t knoooooow…maybe foreeeeeeeeeeeever…”
“That’s not sleeping, then. That’s death. And if you’re going to die, you should be on the ground, not the door.”
“ruuuuuuuuuude…telling me how to diiiiiiiie…”
“That is quite rude, Little Girl!” Strange Cook calls unhelpfully from their pot.
Willi sighs, trying to keep from having another tantrum, but it’s getting harder and harder the longer she and her house are here.
“Is there anything I can do to get you off my door?” Willi asks.
Darkness wiggles and hums to themself.
“doooooooo you knooooooooooow a maaaaaaaagic triiiiiiiiick?” they ask.
“I don’t,” Willi admits. “But The Attic Antiquarian might. I can ask them.”
“yeeeeeeeees…show me a maaaaaaaaaaagic triiiiiiiiiiiiick…then i will sleeeeeeeep to deeeeeeaaaaaaath somewhere eeeeeeeeelse…”
“Very well. I’ll be back,” Willi says, already stepping away.
This one’s a short one! I forget exactly what I rolled to get this event (I should really write them down if only to reflect later), but I kind of like it. I like adding little characters and tasks that don’t seem to add to the story—it feels more like a TTRPG then just a regular web novel! And who knows? Maybe the events of this little side quest will become more important later on :3c
