Willi Finds a Letter
The deed of the house sounds like it would be an important item. If there is one, it would likely be in Mother and Father’s room. They keep many important papers in there, like Willi’s birth certificate.
Willi opens the door to Mother and Father’s bedroom and peeks in. It’s dark, but she doesn’t hear any odd creatures in here. Willi, cautious and nervous, feels for a light. She’s not usually allowed in Mother and Father’s bedroom. It’s no place for little girls.
Willi pulls on the beaded string of the lamp and the room fills with light.
It’s mostly like a normal bedroom, with a bed and a desk and a nightstand and a closet. Though, what is less normal is on the wall behind the bed, where there is a strange drawing of a withered tree. There’s a bubble around the tree, almost like a frame. Willi puts her hand on the wall and examines it. This hardly seems fair. When Willi was a snotty brat, she got in plenty of trouble for drawing on the walls. Why is it that her parents can do so as they please?
No matter. The tree is not what she’s looking for, as it has no paper that shows as a deed. Willi instead turns her attention to the desk and approaches it. Surely, something of such importance would appear here.
She searches the desk, but besides an eraser, a pair of cufflinks, and a few cigarettes, she has unfortunately turned up empty.
She sighs and turns back towards the strange tree drawing, wanting to look at it some more.
There is a letter on the bed.
There was not a letter on the bed just a moment before.
Willi picks it up and opens it, hoping the house deed may be inside.
What she finds, however, is not a house deed, but a message:
Good evening. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I have moved into your attic for the time being. I find the contents absolutely fascinating. It is my understanding that you are related to the owner of this establishment? I would love to speak with you in person. Please come visit me in the attic. I have much to ask you, as I’m sure you have much to ask me.
Willi blinks at the letter. There’s no signature, which is quite rude. She wishes things would stop moving into her house without her permission, but at least this one is trying to prove itself useful. And most of the creatures here have been rather polite, even if they’re not kind.
Willi pockets the letter and leaves Mother and Father’s room, making her way for the attic.
