A common argument among paratologists are whether or not necromancers are considered undead. After hitting the biological age of 25, they no longer age, but can still die of other means, including (but not limited to) diseases, injuries, and blood loss (The Biology of Necromancers, 1997). This is significantly different from undead, as they never age and cannot die due to the fact that they are biologically dead. The corpse of a 12-year-old brought back to life will remain biologically 12 years old until the undead body decomposes completely.
However, necromancers can essentially live forever, causing many to believe they belong to the Undead category. Dr. Munroe, a thanatologist, argues that it is “[necromancers] association with the undead that makes people believe they should be one. Until they are fully, biologically dead, they are just as alive and human as everyone else.” (citation)
